The Greenhouse Effect

The Greenhouse Effect is when co2 goes into the atmosphere and heats up the Earth. This is good, because without it humans couldn't live!

The Enhanced Greenhouse Effect is bad, this is when too much co2 goes into the atmosphere and heats up the Earth TOO much!
This causes

Today's Astonishing Fact

Try to reduce your carbon footprint by reducing your food and cloyhes miles  Food and clothes miles are the amount of miles your food and clothes have to travel to you. The further the food has to travel the more carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere.

Today's Astonishing Fact:
Since 1990, yearly emissions of carbon dioxide have gone up by about 6 billion metric tons worldwide, which is more than a 20% increase. Almost all of that increase is due to human activities.

When the industrial revolution happened in the 1700s, humans started to emit tonnes more carbon dioxide than they did in the time of the bicycle

Today's astonishing fact:
With the start of industry in the 1700's, humans began emitting more fossil fuels from coal, oil, and gas to run our cars, trucks, and factories. By driving a “smarter” car, you will not only save on gas, but help prevent global warming

Famous Celebrity Quotes

The Earth was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children
- Red Indian Chief
Global warming is not a conqueror to be kneeled before - but a challenge to rise to. A challenge we MUST  rise to.
 - Joe Lieberman
Global warming isn't a prediction. It is happening.
- James Hanson
And my personal favourite
It is often difficult to judge how our actions and their impact on the environment are likely to affect others. What is clear is that we are the only species with the power to destroy the earth. Birds and insects have no such power, nor does any other mammal. And yet if we have the capacity to destroy the earth, we also have the capacity to protect it. I believe we have an urgent responsibility to do so.
- Dalai Lama

What global warming will do

We have already talked about global warming causing flooding but did you know that global warming will also cause other weather extremes, for example storms, tornadoes, drought, famine, earthquakes and tsunamis!
Global warming is a topic of contrast and extreme differences

Another Daily Astonishing Fact

People often think that if the ice caps melt, it won't effect them in the slightest
Well I can tell you for sure that thats not true

Today's Astonishing Fact:
If the Ice caps melted, the Sea would rise 67m, thats higher than the Statue of Liberty, Christ the Redeemer or the Millenium Tower in Dublin! Heres a floodmap, areas in red would be in danger!

A look at the damage global warming has already done.

There is so much damage caused by global warming every year, It is estimated that 500,000 people die every year because of the side effects of global warming. Global warming causes not only the temperatures to rise and the ice caps to melt, It also causes hurricanes, storms, drought and other extremes in weather. Bear Glacier is an excellent example of what global warming has already done and will continue to do unless we change our way of life now
